Home Gym Adaptation — we turn an unused room into a real training space

A guest room used five times a year. A loft with three suitcases and a wine rack. A basement with a stationary bike that remembers the pandemic. Each of these rooms can be turned into a proper gym — not an improvised one with dumbbells under the bed, but one you actually want to walk into.

Who this is for

• Underused 10–20 m² room in a house or flat
• Minimum 2.2 m ceiling height (basements/lofts often have 2.2–2.4 m)
• Budget £3,600–£7,200 +VAT — a fraction of the cost of a new container module
• Solo / couple training — compact but complete
• Living in a flat? — only in the basement with electrical access, not in a living room (noise)

Base package (from £4,400 incl. VAT)

Design:

• Room measurement + acoustic/ventilation analysis
• 3D visualisation of equipment layout
• Shopping list + schedule

Fit-out:

• 15 mm rubber matting cut to size (fitted around pillars/recesses)
• Wall mirrors (1–2 panels)
• Wall hooks for resistance bands, accessories
• Two-zone LED lighting (bright + ambient)

Equipment (choose one of two sets):

Set A: Classic strength

• Steel power rack (300 kg)
• Olympic barbell 20 kg + 80 kg plate set
• FID adjustable bench
• Dumbbells 2–24 kg (12 pairs)

Set B: Functional trainer

• Multi-station with 2× 75 kg weight stacks
• Pull-up bar
• Adjustable bench
• Dumbbells 2–20 kg (10 pairs)

What we don’t do

• We don’t reinforce floors — if the basement has an old timber floor, it needs a structural consultation
• We don’t lay new screed — we assume the floor is stable
• We don’t cut walls or door openings — equipment installation only
• We don’t modify central heating — if the basement is unheated, we add an electric heater (+£310 incl. VAT)

For flats / apartments

Strength training in a flat carries a real risk of conflict with the neighbour below. In the basement — no problem. In the flat itself — only with modifications:

• Two-layer matting (15 mm + 8 mm anti-impact) — reduces vibration
• No dropping the bar (power rack with safety arms only)
• Rubber-coated dumbbells (not iron)
• Cardio training until 22:00

Detailed quote

The base price of £4,400 incl. VAT covers the package without AC and without extra cardio. Full quote depends on:

• Room size (10 vs 20 m²)
• Equipment set chosen (A or B)
• Add-ons (AC, cardio, acoustics, heavier dumbbells)
