A Gym Box is an investment – finance it like one
A container gym is not an impulse purchase. It is infrastructure. And like any piece of infrastructure, it can be financed sensibly – spreading the cost while you start using it from day one.
For private buyers there is instalment credit. For businesses, hotels and sole traders there is leasing with real tax benefits. And depending on your project type, UK grant funding may reduce the net cost significantly.
Option 1 – Leasing (for businesses and sole traders)
Leasing is the most popular financing route among our business clients. If you run a hotel, a gym, a sports club or any commercial operation, leasing is worth exploring before you consider paying cash.
Who it suits:
➜ Limited companies, LLPs and sole traders
➜ Hotels, aparthotels and holiday let operators
➜ Personal trainers and fitness studios with a registered business
➜ Property developers adding amenity value
Key benefits:
➜ Monthly lease payments are fully deductible as a business expense
➜ VAT on payments is reclaimed immediately (VAT-registered businesses)
➜ Does not sit on your balance sheet as a capital purchase
➜ Lower credit risk than a loan – the asset is owned by the lessor
Indicative terms (GBP):
- Minimum lease value: from £8,000 net
- Term: 24–60 months
- Initial deposit: 10–20%
- Example: Gym Box 8×3 at £20,000 net ➜ approx. £400–500/month (36 months, 10% deposit)
Compare that to a commercial gym membership for your team or guests – at £40–80/person/month, a leased Gym Box starts paying for itself quickly.
Option 2 – Instalment credit (for private individuals)
Private buyers can finance a Gym Box through a personal loan or consumer credit.
How it works:
➜ You borrow the purchase amount from a bank or lender
➜ Repay in fixed monthly instalments over 24–84 months
➜ Typical APR in the UK: 6–15% depending on credit history and lender
Example:
Gym Box 8×3 with equipment: £22,000
Personal loan over 60 months at 9% APR ➜ approx. £456/month
For context: a premium gym membership in London runs £80–150/month per person. A family of three pays £240–450/month for something they do not own, cannot use at midnight and share with strangers.
Own it instead.
Option 3 – UK grants and funding schemes
Depending on your project type and location, significant grant funding may be available.
For sports clubs and community organisations:
➜ Sport England – Small Grants (£300–£10,000) and larger capital grants for facilities
➜ Active Travel England grants for projects linked to active lifestyles
➜ National Lottery Community Fund – funding for grassroots sports projects
For rural businesses and holiday operators:
➜ DEFRA / Rural Payments Agency – Farming in Protected Landscapes and similar rural diversification programmes
➜ UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) – delivered by local councils, often includes SME capital investment support
For hotels and hospitality businesses:
➜ Local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) and Growth Hubs often have capital grant schemes
➜ Hospitality sector business rates relief – check with your local authority
For local councils and schools:
➜ Levelling Up Fund and successor programmes for community sports infrastructure
➜ DfE capital programmes for school sports facilities
