Greater Manchester is one of the rainiest cities in England. That fact alone makes a Gym Box container gym one of the most sensible investments you can make in the Northwest: a fully weatherproofed, heated training space at the bottom of your garden, ready every day regardless of what the weather is doing outside.
Delivery Across Greater Manchester and the Northwest
We deliver to the full Greater Manchester area and the wider Northwest region:
- Greater Manchester – Stockport, Salford, Oldham, Bolton, Wigan, Bury, Rochdale, Tameside
- Cheshire – Wilmslow, Altrincham, Macclesfield, Knutsford, Cheadle, Handforth
- Lancashire – Chorley, Preston, Blackburn, Burnley, Leyland, Clitheroe
Delivery and installation are included in the project price for all locations within approximately 60 km of Manchester city centre. Wilmslow, Altrincham and Stockport – areas with large gardens and strong demand for home fitness investment – fall comfortably within this zone.
Built for the Northwest Climate
Manchester averages over 140 rainy days per year. Winter temperatures regularly drop to -5°C or lower. A Gym Box is engineered specifically for year-round outdoor use in a Northern European climate:
- Wall insulation: 100 mm mineral wool or PUR foam – U-value comparable to a modern extension
- Floor insulation: 80 mm – keeps the training surface warm underfoot through a January session
- Roof insulation: 120 mm – prevents condensation and heat loss even in heavy rain
- Split inverter climate system – heats efficiently down to -15°C outside temperature, cools in summer. Runs quietly and economically.
- Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery – fresh air exchange without losing heat during intense training sessions
The result: you step outside on a wet Tuesday in February, walk 30 seconds across the garden, and train in a dry, warm, well-lit space. No commute, no parking, no waiting for the squat rack.
Garden Sizes in the Northwest
Suburban Manchester – especially areas like Wilmslow, Altrincham, Bramhall, Hale and Prestwich – is characterised by generous semi-detached and detached properties with rear gardens of 100–300 m². These are ideal for a Gym Box installation.
A Gym Box 8×3 (24 m²) requires approximately 9 × 4 m of accessible rear garden space. Most Northwest suburban gardens accommodate this without issue. The 11×3 model (33 m²), which includes a full strength and cardio layout, fits comfortably in gardens from around 150 m² upwards.
For terraced properties in Salford, Levenshulme or Eccles with tighter gardens, we recommend the compact 8×3 model and can assess access routes including side-passage delivery during the free site survey.
Planning Permission – Greater Manchester
In most Greater Manchester boroughs, a container gym installed in a rear garden qualifies as permitted development – no planning application required. Standard conditions apply:
- Located in the rear garden
- Maximum 50% of garden area covered by outbuildings
- Height under 2.5 m within 2 m of a boundary (4 m elsewhere with a pitched roof)
- Property is not listed and not in a Conservation Area
Wilmslow, Hale and parts of Altrincham fall within Cheshire East and Trafford Metropolitan Borough respectively, which both follow standard permitted development rules for most residential properties. We confirm planning status for your specific address as part of the free quote – no need to contact the council yourself.
