Garden Sizes in the Northwest
Suburban Manchester – especially areas like Wilmslow, Altrincham, Bramhall, Hale and Prestwich – is characterised by generous semi-detached and detached properties with rear gardens of 100–300 m². These are ideal for a Gym Box installation.
A Gym Box 8×3 (24 m²) requires approximately 9 × 4 m of accessible rear garden space. Most Northwest suburban gardens accommodate this without issue. The 7×5 studio-level model (35 m²), which includes a full strength and cardio layout, fits comfortably in gardens from around 150 m² upwards.
For terraced properties in Salford, Levenshulme or Eccles with tighter gardens, we recommend the compact 8×3 model and can assess access routes, including side-passage delivery, from your plot plan and photos, free of charge.
Planning Permission – Greater Manchester
In most Greater Manchester boroughs, a container gym installed in a rear garden qualifies as permitted development – no planning application required. Standard conditions apply:
- Located in the rear garden
- Maximum 50% of garden area covered by outbuildings
- Height under 2.5 m within 2 m of a boundary (4 m elsewhere with a pitched roof)
- Property is not listed and not in a Conservation Area
Wilmslow, Hale and parts of Altrincham fall within Cheshire East and Trafford Metropolitan Borough respectively, which both follow standard permitted development rules for most residential properties. We confirm planning status for your specific address as part of the free quote – no need to contact the council yourself.
