Project facts

Client problem

A local authority had an open-air Orlik sports pitch operating year-round but no covered facility, so residents couldn't train regardless of weather, especially through winter.

Chosen solution

A 10×4 m public GymBox next to the pitch — a heated, fully equipped strength and cardio facility with a separate WC and panoramic glazing, sized to fit a grant-funded community brief.

Biggest concern

It had to work as a safe, eligible public facility through Central European winters. Warm PUR walls, AC with heating to 18–20°C, a WC and five panoramic windows for visibility met that.

Result after delivery

A year-round community gym alongside the pitch, delivered as an eligible cost under a Local Action Group grant programme with full technical documentation.

Scope of work

  • GymBox 10×4 m, 40 m², PUR sandwich-panel construction
  • Five panoramic front windows for natural light and visibility
  • Full strength and cardio equipment package
  • Separate WC with washbasin and water heater
  • AC with heating for year-round use

The investment and the concept

Project for a Polish local authority next to a public “Orlik” sports pitch — delivered as part of a Local Action Group (LGD) programme. The objective: create year-round sports infrastructure available to local residents. The Orlik pitch is already operating. What was missing was a covered facility that allowed training regardless of the weather.

The enquiry came from the local authority — from the sports and recreation officer. The brief was clear: a public facility, full equipment, separate WC, and something that could be included in a grant funding application.

For UK / Irish councils and parish authorities, the equivalent context would be a small community gym alongside an existing 3G pitch, community centre or village hall — funded through a sports development grant, parish precept or community asset transfer.

Technical specification

ParameterValue
External dimensions10 m × 4 m
Internal height2.70 m (sloping down to 2.60 m)
ColourRAL 7016 anthracite / RAL 9010 white
Walls100 mm polyurethane sandwich panel, U = 0.24 W/m²K
Floor100 mm PUR sandwich panel + 12 mm OSB + PVC flooring

Why a GymBox works alongside a public sports pitch

An open sports pitch is open infrastructure, not an enclosed hall. It needs complementing with a year-round, heated facility — because the pitch operates for 12 months, but strength and cardio training through Central European winters without heating isn’t realistic.

GymBox 10×4 alongside the pitch solves this comprehensively:

  • Warm walls (PUR 100 mm, U = 0.24 W/m²K) — effective winter insulation
  • AC with heating — comfortable 18–20°C even at −20°C outside
  • WC — essential for a public facility
  • 5 panoramic windows — natural light without additional lighting costs during the day

Grant funding — Local Action Group (LGD)

The investment was delivered under a Polish LGD (Local Action Group) programme. For local authorities and government organisations, a GymBox can be an eligible cost in a grant funding application — the module has full technical documentation needed to apply for grants.

For UK / Irish councils the equivalent funding routes include Sport England Community Asset Fund, National Lottery Awards for All, FAI/IFA community sport grants, or local council capital programmes. We can provide technical documentation in English on request.
