Gym design and layout — from empty room to finished gym

How does home gym design work? 3D visualisation, equipment layout, lighting and flooring selection. Gym Assistance — design included in delivery.

A good design is the basis for a good gym

A bad equipment layout isn’t an aesthetic problem — it’s a practical one. Rack too close to the wall, treadmill you have to side-step around, mirrors you can’t see from the bench. The design eliminates these errors before they happen.

What does the gym design cover?

1. Space analysis

We measure the room — dimensions, door frames, windows, radiators, power sockets. We check the height — that determines whether the rack will fit and how many pull-up variations are possible.

2. 3D visualisation

We create a to-scale design — with equipment placed exactly as it will be in reality. You see the free training space, safety zones, flow between units.

3. Equipment selection

We recommend specific models and brands within your budget. Not “some rack” — a specific model, a specific manufacturer, a specific price.

4. Flooring

Rubber thickness under the barbell, colour, pattern, cut-outs around cardio equipment. More important than it sounds.

5. Lighting

LED strips behind mirrors, spotlights over the strength zone, night-time LED. A good gym is a good gym at any hour.

6. Electrical installation

How many sockets, where, what load. Cardio equipment needs dedicated circuits.

What’s our design process?

Step 1: You send photos and dimensions of the room (or we measure on site) Step 2: We prepare an initial 3D design — free of charge Step 3: We discuss the design, you mark up changes, we revise Step 4: We finalise the design and move on to the equipment and installation quote

How much does the design cost?

The design is free when delivered by Gym Assistance. We don’t charge for design when you order the equipment and installation through us.

Common errors we avoid with a design

➜ Rack set too close to the wall (impossible to use an incline bench) ➜ Treadmill under a window (glare, discomfort) ➜ Too few power sockets ➜ No mirror at the training position ➜ Insufficient “safety” zone in front of the weight stack
